The Bavarian State Institute of Forestry (LWF)

The Bavarian State Institute of Forestry (LWF) is a research facility of the Bavarian Forestry Administration. We research and develop concepts of sustainable forest management for a competitive, ecologically suitable and socially agreeable forest management. We develop approaches of direct practical relevance to forestry and provide the public with new findings of our research and long-term investigations. Our aims are to maintain and strengthen the diverse forest functions. Remote sensing of forest regions has a long standing tradition at the LWF. Among other research aspects, we currently focus on developping approaches to gain further insights into biotic and abiotic damage sources in forests.
