Work Package 10

Economic assessment

The overall objective of this work package is to create the scientific basis for integration of economic assessments into a permanent remote sensing-based monitoring and reporting system on forest damage. For this purpose, a standardized economic evaluation concept for forest damage in Germany is to be developed on the basis of scientific findings from national and international forest damage economics. In particular, the availability and quality of data should be examined for the valuation methods to be applied. This should ensure a consistent monetary valuation of the forest damage detected at the federal level via remote sensing. Historical reference data should be used to validate the valuation system. In addition, the factors influencing market reactions or disturbances to previous calamities in Germany and "threshold values" for market disturbances are to be identified. The aim is to develop a forecast model for future market reactions to calamities.
